Hi jbc123,

This site is hosted by Wetpaint.com, which makes their money primarily through Google's AdSense, which is contextual advertising. This means that the advertisements that are displayed are based on the words that appear on that page. We might use the phrase "vegan chicken" and because the word chicken is there, an ad for Wendy's chicken may appear. 90%+ of the time, the word "vegan" is the primary keyword on most pages, so the ads that show up are vegan. If there were a button we could push that would make only vegan ads show up, we would. Since there isn't, we don't.

The main principal of this site is the law of supply and demand. By showing companies that there is a demand for vegan products, they're more likely to start supplying it. Then, perhaps some non-vegans will come to love these vegan foods and there will be even more demand. I look at these things as an opportunity to express to companies like Wendy's that there are people out here who would love vegan options - maybe even vegan chicken sandwiches.

It might be argued that we should take this site off of Wetpaint if they're going to use the kind of advertising that might sometimes advertise non-vegan items. Our approach is that we want a vegan presence on Wetpaint. We want there to be a vegan presence everywhere. That's how we can get the message out. And it's how we can make a more vegan- and therefore animal-friendly world. If it's not your approach, that's cool. I encourage you to do whatever vegan activism works for you. This world is big enough for all of us and it takes all kinds. =)

I hope that clarifies why non-vegan ads show up on the site sometimes and a little about what this site is about.
