i think it matters. if a label says "may contain trace amount of milk ingredients", this means that the factory produces milk products. if your veganism is not just about health or animals that are directly affected, and goes farther, then you may not want to support the non-vegan factory or people who work with these products. then i guess it's similar to buying soy milk, as a lot of soy milk is made by dairy companies and whether you support the dairy industry or not, you're giving them your money if you buy their product, even if it's not milk.
