What does "may contain" mean on an ingredients label?
In many cases, "may contain" means that the product was manufactured or handled in a facility that also handles products that contain the ingredient disclosed. This information is largely included for the purposes of informing people who are highly allergic to even trace amounts of that ingredient.
Apart from the issue of allergies, this is considered a grey area for many vegans. Some vegans would not want to eat food that has been in the vicinity of an animal product, while others consider it a non-issue.
