Gourmet House Chinese Restaraunt:

-Previous to this, this place was called "china harbor" and was owned by Eddie Moy(sp?) and Thao Chen who now own "thao chen's" in Chesterton. I worked at this restaraunt when it was Panda, years before they owned it or the current owner's own it. The kitchen is clean, all of the woks are scalded clean and then washed before each dish is prepared. They have magnificent home style bean curd and their sesame tofu reminds me of sesame chicken (in sauce taste, not consistency or flavor). both are really good and under 7 dollars.
If gourmet house is closed, you can venture about a mile north, and in a strip mall behind a family express gas station, there is another chinese place called "CHINA ONE" which also makes similar dishes. they are a little bit cheaper, but it's a take-out style place and doesn't have the atmosphere of gourmet house.

info@thejuicegarden.comThis place is a grocery store as well as a cafe. They do serve some organic meat products, but I believe that most of the employees there are vegan. I had an amazing mexican style pizza and a delicious smoothie. It was very resonably priced for quality organic vegan good. A 12" pizza ran me around 10 dollars and a grilled fake-cheese was around 3 bucks, if I remember correctly.
High reccomendation.
Chesterton:

Chesterton, IN 46304
(219) 926-2542Previously "China Harbor" in michigan city. Homestyle tofu, as well as a coconut curry type of tofu. both are good. portions aren't as big as the restaurants in michigan city, and are a little bit more expensive, but chesterton is generally a higher priced town.

I still have yet to try this place, but everyone I talk to about it holds it in high regards.

the falafel is very good. the lentil soup is equally as pleasing. the pitas are NOT vegan. there is also a grocery built into the place that sells vegan baklava... and it is HEAVENLY.
